Indoor Air Quality
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the air indoors is 2 to 5 times more polluted than the air outside. And since Americans spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, that’s a lot of exposure to sub-par air quality.
Clean air has so many health benefits, especially for the 25 million American with asthma and the estimated 50 million people who suffer allergies symptoms each year. One simple solution to ensure cleaner air quality inside your home is through the installation of a whole house UV air cleaner or media air purifier.
Sanborn’s Air Conditioning & Heating is the Inland Empire’s trusted and most reliable HVAC company. Sanborn’s has several indoor air quality (IAQ) products to combat indoor pollutants and increase the comfort and health of your family. With the right IAQ solution, including installation of whole house UV or media air cleaner, airborne contaminants are kept at bay. Contact Sanborn’s today to discuss your indoor air quality options.
How Do UV Air Cleaners Work?
Whole home UV air filtration systems are conveniently installed directly to your existing HVAC system to provide cleaner air for your entire home, not just one or two select rooms.
Instead of using a filter to eliminate harmful pollutants and contaminants like traditional media air cleaners do, these purifiers emit UV radiation to incinerate particles, including bacteria and dust. UV cleaners often combine a UV lamp with a media air filter. The UV lamp essentially works by sterilizing your home’s air. HEPA ultraviolet air purifiers can filter out up to 99.97 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns or bigger.
Because of the ultraviolet light, UV cleaners are especially great at reducing and killing:
- Bacteria
- Mold
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
How Do Media Air Purifiers Work?
Media air cleaners are installed in the return air duct of your HVAC system. The filter traps airborne particles and contaminants before they enter your indoor space.
The only difference is that media air purifiers use a HEPA filter instead of a UV light to eliminate particles. Media air filters are different from a standard filter because they are 4 to 5 inches thick, opposed to about an inch, allowing for better air filtration.
Some of the benefits of a media air purifier, include:
- Capturing up to 98% of airborne particles
- More effective at filtering out contaminants than traditional filters
- Capturing particles as small as 0.1 microns
What Can UV and Media Air Cleaners Filter Out?
Indoor ultraviolet and media air purifiers filter out even the smallest particles that can be unhealthy and even harmful to your family, including:
- Mold
- Viruses
- Germs
- Smoke
- Pet dander
- Bacteria
- Pollen
- Dust
- Volatile organic compounds
