You’re Cold - He’s Hot: The Thermostat War Begins

Does this headline sound very familiar? Sanborn’s Air Conditioning & Heating knows uneven heating or cooling is a common complaint. Clients tell us one room, or an area in a room, is too hot or too cold.
Even with recent technological advances in the HVAC industry the problem does happen. Part of the reason is we are building larger and larger homes. The conditioned air has to travel farther and farther to reach all of the living areas. It’s a challenge to cool or heat the increased square footage evenly. Here are some of the ways Sanborn’s can help you end the thermostat warfare in your home.
In our experience, ductwork issues are a common cause of uneven cooling and heating. Think of the ducts like the arteries in your body and the air conditioner or furnace as the heart. No matter how efficiently the “heart” works, leaking or clogged “arteries” are a problem. Let us test the ducts for leaks. Our technicians will make sure the ducts are the right size for your system. Even a simple duct cleaning can often improve airflow. It’s not uncommon for a central system to lose as much as 30% of its efficiency as the conditioned air is delivered to the different rooms.
If the problem isn’t in the ducts, consider adding a ductless mini-split heat pump to supplement your current system. Mini splits can have as many as four indoor air handlers connected to one outside condenser. Using heat pump technology, they can heat or cool a specific room. Each of the indoor units can be set to different temperatures. As the name ductless HVAC implies, the conditioned air is delivered directly to a specific room without going through ducts. Sanborn’s prefers mini splits from Daikin or Fujitsu.
Another option is adding system-wide zoning to your current HVAC system. It means connecting multiple thermostats to one control panel. The thermostats control dampers inside your ducts allowing you to direct more or less heating or cooling to specific areas in the home.
If you are ready to end the household temperature bickering, now is the time to get help from our professional technicians. Call Sanborn’s Air Conditioning & Heating—the same people you can depend on for all of your service, repair, and maintenance needs.
